Dragons are a very common tattoo motifs, a tribal dragon tattoo or a coloured dragon intermixed with a tribal design makes a very powerful statement.
There are two different dragon genres, the Western and the Eastern. What's the difference? I hear you ask.

Western dragons are shown as fierce, aggressive and fire breathing, rather dangerous types that eat fair maidens and children (men probably taste horrible) and are slain by knights on white steeds, wielding a lance or sword. They have large leather like wings similar to a bat, four (occasionally two) legs and a long, scaly and muscular tail. The Eastern dragons tend to be portrayed as having potent and auspicious powers and are wise, gentle creatures who mean no harm to a living soul. They never have wings of any sort, but are often depicted as if they are flying often with clouds around them. They are long and snake like with ridges along their back their long tails ending in a point surrounded by flames or feathery, furry mane. Their tongues, usually protruding, are long and red, often forked.
“If you can't take the heat, don't tickle the dragon.”

I always wanted to ride a dragon myself, so I decided to do this for a year in my imagination. Cornelia Funke

Perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave.” Rainer Maria Rilke quotes (Austro-German lyric poet, 1875-1926)

“We're our own dragons as well as our own heroes, and we have to rescue ourselves from ourselves.” Tom Robbins quotes (American Novelist. b.1936)
